Why CfC?

There are many commercial IT disposal specialists; however Computers for Charities offers a complete end to end IT disposal service where all the proceeds are used for charitable projects. Not only is your ICT and telecommunications equipment disposed of in a safe and practical manner, satisfying all requirements from a legislative and environmental perspective but the proceeds from equipment donated whether financial, or reused, is used to benefit many thousands of people worldwide.

Full Legislative Compliance

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) came into force in January 2007 and aims to both reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage everyone to reduce, reuse and recycle. More information can be found at www.environment-agency.gov.uk/weee . The regulations state that business users are responsible, along with producers, for ensuring their WEEE is correctly treated and reprocessed.

We are fully compliant and registered with all UK and EU statutory bodies including the Environment Agency as waste carriers, WEEE storage and end of life disposal.

Legal Liabilities

CfC assumes full legal liability for equipment received with public liability insurance covering all hardware donated from the moment of collection and data wiping insurance, guaranteeing the unrecoverable removal of 100% of data.

Data Protection

The 1998 Data Protection Act makes it a legal requirement to adopt appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorised access, alteration or accidental loss or destruction of personal data. CfC’s standard software product eliminates all traces of data from hard drives and exceeds the standards required by The Data Protection Act ensuring complete data destruction with the drive being overwritten a minimum 3 times. CfC guarantees the total removal of all data as well as the removal of all identification markings.

If for any reason the Hard Drive cannot be accessed then it is physically destroyed onsite.

CfC provides a Certificate of Data Destruction for all equipment donated.

Corporate & Social Responsibility

Today’s organisations have a responsibility for their impact on the environment, consumers, employees, communities, stakeholders and the Planet as a whole. A widely accepted approach is community-based development projects and the establishment of education facilities through the provision of aid to local organizations and impoverished communities in developing countries which leads to a more sustainable development.

CfC completely fulfils this philosophy by “providing practical, sustainable solutions that empowers and enriches the lives of people from poor communities re-using ICT and telecommunications equipment to fund and provide education, training and development initiatives in the UK and to developing countries.”
