How It Works
If you have equipment to donate,

and provide an initial asset inventory detailing approximate specification and quantities of equipment to be retired. Please see our Preferred Equipment List for those items that can be donated.
We use our own vehicles and drivers to collect equipment at a pre agreed time that suits you where it is transported to our processing centre.
At our centre all equipment is segregated into PC’s, laptops, printers, monitors and servers. All other equipment is classified as general equipment.
Every item of equipment is bar-coded and allocated its own unique CfC asset number to facilitate future audit trails. Equipment ID, specification and details of condition are taken and uploaded into an Asset Report which is sent to each donor organization.
Equipment with hard drives is segregated from all other WEEE. Hard drives are data erased and/or degaussed/destroyed as appropriate and a Certificate of Data Destruction is sent to each donor organization.
Any hazardous equipment not designated for reuse is disposed of in accordance with all UK and EU laws and directives. (WEEE - Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive and RoHS - Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive). In some rare cases CfC will incur a cost to dispose of equipment and in these cases we may have to pass on such charges for this disposal.
Equipment which can be reused but is not suitable for any charitable projects, is sold to raise funds for day to day purposes such fleet management, management of our facility in Sussex and to directly support projects e.g. it costs £7,000 to prepare and ship a container to set up 20 new schools in Africa.
All suitable equipment is then used for various charitable projects both in the UK and overseas.
In the UK we provide Low Cost ready to go refurbished PC and Mac computer systems available only to UK Charities, Voluntary Groups, Churches, Schools and educational establishments. The systems include Microsoft Windows operating system, Microsoft Office, Monitor, Keyboard, mouse and power cables plus three months return to base warranty. CfC also provide (mainly free of charge) impartial IT advice and project support e.g. Networks, Youth Cafes, Learning centres, etc.
All proceeds from sales made to UK charities is added to the proceeds for non suitable but reusable equipment to fund overseas projects such Africa Schools Online.
